Virginia has multiple options for you to vote, not just on election day. But where do you start?
- Check your registration status. Virginia re-districted after the 2021 elections, and almost all of district numbers and boundaries were changed. The best way to confirm your address of record, what district you are now in, your local registrar’s office, and your election day polling place is Virginia’s Department of Elections Citizen Portal. You can also register to vote on this page. You can also check your registration, register to vote, and vote early at your local voter registrar’s office (see below). The last day to register to vote is October 24. However, if you miss that deadline, you can still vote on election day on a provisional ballot.
- Get informed. Unsure of your polling place, local registrar’s office, early voting and drop off locations, and who will be on the ballot this election? Check out Virginia’s Polling Place and Ballot Information Lookup page. Also, this website (iwillvote.com) has a convenient tool that shows hours and locations for early voting, including absentee ballot drop offs.
- When can I vote early? Early voting for the 2025 elections runs from Friday, September 19 through Saturday November 1. Most counties have early voting at the local registrar’s office during regular business hours Monday through Friday, except October 13 (holiday). They will be open on the last two Saturdays before election day (October 25 & November 1).
- What about Election Day? Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, from 6 am to 7 pm. Find your polling location here. Be sure to bring proper ID. If you forget your ID, you can still vote on a provisional ballot.
- Unable to vote in person? For example, you are active duty military, away at school, working out of the area, etc., you can still vote via an Absentee Ballot. Absentee Ballots can be returned via the mail or dropped off at designated locations. You can find information on requesting and returning a ballot here. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is October 24. However, Virginia will allow emergency absentee voting in limited circumstances, found here. Military and overseas voters can find specific information regarding absentee voting on the military and overseas voting page.
Virginia has many options to vote. It’s time to make your plan, and make your voice heard through the ballot box!
